About
Night Sky Notes is an independent publication covering astronomy and space science for a general audience. Its purpose is to make developments easier to understand and to verify, through clear explanations and transparent sourcing.
Mission
Space coverage tends to fall at two extremes: technical material written for specialists, and sensationalized content that trades accuracy for attention. Night Sky Notes aims to sit between them, presenting accurate information in plain language and showing the evidence behind it.
Coverage
- Observation guides. Practical instructions for viewing the Moon, planets, satellites and other objects, most of which require no equipment beyond the naked eye or binoculars.
- News analysis. Explanations of significant discoveries and missions: what was found, why it matters, and what the findings do not show.
- Science explainers. Concise articles on the principles behind astronomical phenomena.
Editorial standards
- Sourcing. Articles are based on reputable sources, including space agencies, scientific institutions and established news organizations. Each article lists the sources it relies on.
- Verification. Facts are checked against the cited sources before publication. Where sources disagree, the article reports the discrepancy.
- Use of AI. AI tools assist with research, outlining and drafting. All content is reviewed and edited by a human before publication, and responsibility for accuracy rests with the publisher.
- Independence. If advertising or affiliate relationships are introduced, they will be clearly disclosed and will not influence editorial decisions.
